Computer game developer and creator of Counter-Strike

Bio

In 1999, I came up with the idea of counter-strike, and with the help of my partner Jesse Cliffe and a community of level designers, we developed the initial versions of Counter-Strike. In 2001, I joined Valve and worked with them for about 6 years. I spent most of my time at valve making prototype of a successor to Counter-Strike but it never saw the light of day. I also helped out on Day of Defeat:Source before I left Valve in 2007.

After leaving Valve, I started Tactical Intervention which was similar to Counter-Strike. I spent a couple years developing a prototype on my own and around 2009, I joined a company in Korea to further develop Tactical Intervention. After spending several years of painful development, the game was finally released in 2013. It was a critical failure.

Now, I'm working at FacePunch Studios on an open world sand box game called Rust.

"Challenges of developing a PC game in today's game industry"

This discussion will describe some of the challenges I faced when creating Counter-Strike, and my next game Tactical Intervention. It will go into detail the mistakes we made during the development of a multiplayer PC game. I will cover topics such as game development and game testing and marketing of the game. I will also go over using data analytics to help make the game more appealing to a broader audience.
